When your child is hurting, it takes over your whole world.
It’s tough to see your child struggle and not know how to fix it. As a parent, you want more for them. More smiles. More laughter. Instead, you may be wondering what happened to your once easygoing kid, why school feels so hard, or why they are always anxious. You might feel caught between pushing your child forward and wanting to protect them from more stress, unsure of where the right balance is.
At Heartspace Therapy Center, we offer child therapy in Lake Mary to support both your child and you. Using child-centered play therapy and parent coaching, we help children feel safe again while giving parents reassurance and guidance.
Is Your Child:
- Worrying more often or seeming anxious most days
- Having big emotional reactions, meltdowns, or shutting down
- Avoiding school or activities they once enjoyed
- Struggling with confidence, perfectionism, or fear of mistakes
- Complaining of stomach aches, headaches, or trouble sleeping
- Needing constant reassurance or reminders to cope
We provide caring, tailored therapy so your child can be themselves and work through challenges, and you have support as you navigate this with them.

How Child Therapy Can Help
Child therapy gives your child a safe place to work through what feels hard right now. Child therapy isn’t adult therapy for smaller bodies. Kids experience the world differently, and they need support that meets them at their developmental stage. Many children don’t yet have the words to explain what they’re feeling, so stress, anxiety, or overwhelm shows up through behavior, big emotions, or withdrawal. Through play-based therapy, your child has a space to express themselves in ways that make sense for them and to talk about the hard parts of being a kid.
We also know how much this impacts you as a parent. When sleep changes, school becomes a struggle, or emotions feel unpredictable, it can leave you unsure of how to help without making things worse. Through parent coaching and family support, child therapy helps you better understand what your child needs while giving you guidance and reassurance along the way. Together, we focus on helping your child feel safer and more secure, and helping you feel less alone in the process.

Therapy Can Help Your Child:
Feel More Confident & Secure
Child therapy helps children build confidence by giving them a safe space to express thoughts and feelings in ways that feel natural to them. As children begin to feel understood, they develop a stronger sense of self and greater confidence in who they are.
Learn To Handle Big Emotions
Through child-centered play therapy, children learn how to recognize, express, and manage big emotions like anxiety, anger, or fear. Over time, they build coping skills that help them feel calmer and more in control when things feel overwhelming.
Strengthen Relationships & Communication
Therapy helps children learn healthier ways to communicate their needs and emotions. As these skills grow, many children experience fewer emotional outbursts and more positive connections with parents, siblings, teachers, and peers.
Navigate School & Social Challenges
Child therapy supports children as they work through school stress, peer difficulties, and social worries. Children gain tools to handle pressure, build resilience, and feel more comfortable being themselves in social and academic settings.

ABOUT US
Why Work With Heartspace Therapy Center in Lake Mary
Healing begins with connection—to yourself, to others, and to your faith.
When life feels overwhelming, it’s often because something in your relationships feels disconnected—whether that’s your relationship with yourself, your loved ones, or your faith. Anxiety, loneliness, and self-doubt can feel isolating. Marriage or family struggles can create distance where you long for closeness. In these moments, it’s easy to feel stuck, uncertain if things can truly change.
At Heartspace Therapy Center, we believe healing happens in connection—with yourself, with others, and with God. Therapy isn’t just about solving problems; it’s about rediscovering peace, purpose, and the relationships that matter most.
As a wife, mother, and therapist, I’ve seen firsthand how struggles like anxiety, communication breakdowns, and infidelity can impact every part of life. I draw from both my personal journey and professional training to create solutions that restore meaningful connections in your life. With over 15 years of experience, our team helps individuals, teens, couples, and families strengthen relationships, regain confidence, and create lasting change.
If you’re ready to take the first step toward healing, let’s work together to create peace, deepen your connection, and strengthen your family dynamics.

Our Approach
How Child Therapy Works At Heartspace Therapy Center

Begin Together
Sessions start with both parent and child. Your child is invited to explore the space and play materials while we build trust, understand concerns, and create a sense of safety from the very beginning.

Play, Process, & Heal
Your child spends time in child-centered play therapy, using play to express emotions, work through anxiety, trauma, perfectionism, and big feelings that may be hard to put into words.

Support the Whole Family
Parents rejoin to discuss themes, progress, and practical tools to use at home. Through parent coaching and family support, we help your child grow emotionally while giving you clarity and confidence along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions About Child Therapy
Can you diagnose and treat ADHD?
We can help you narrow things down and point you in the right direction. We are able to identify patterns and provide a list of symptoms that may support a formal diagnosis. When appropriate, we can also provide a letter for your child’s pediatrician or a developmental psychologist for further evaluation or testing. We support children with ADHD using child-centered play therapy and family therapy approaches.
Do you “fix” my child? Do I have to be involved?
In a perfect world, child therapy would include all the influential people in a child’s life. Realistically, having at least one parent involved is often the most beneficial and effective support for a child in therapy. We understand your time is valuable and limited, and we work within each family’s unique situation. When a parent cannot attend every session, we can offer phone or video check-ins to provide collaborative support and guidance for your child’s needs.
How long does child therapy usually take?
Play therapy typically lasts a minimum of 12–16 sessions when sessions are held once or twice per week. The length of therapy can vary depending on your child’s needs, the goals you set together, and how consistently sessions are attended.
What is play therapy? Does my child really just play the whole time?
Play therapy meets children where they are. Many kids do not yet have the words to explain what they are feeling, especially when emotions feel big or confusing. In play therapy, children use play to communicate. Toys become their words, and play becomes the way they make sense of their world in a safe, supportive space.
Through play, children process their world, experiences, and challenges in a safe and supportive environment. While it may look like “just play,” the therapist is paying close attention to play themes, emotional responses, and how the child reacts to different interventions. Play therapy also allows children to learn new skills and solutions without feeling lectured, which often makes them more open and receptive to change.
Do you diagnose children?
At Heartspace Therapy Center, we do not typically provide formal diagnoses unless we notice symptoms that are significantly impacting your child’s quality of life. If concerns arise, we will discuss what we are noticing with you and help guide the next steps. This may include referrals for further evaluation when appropriate. We are always happy to discuss your concerns and offer guidance based on what you are seeing at home or school.
Do you offer therapy for teens?
Yes. In addition to child therapy, we also offer therapy for teens. Adolescent therapy is tailored to the unique emotional, social, and developmental challenges teens face, with an approach that supports both the teen and their family. If you’re looking for support for an older child, you can learn more on our teen therapy page.
